3 things that beginners know when choosing a Wordpress theme

Wordpress is a great platform when it comes to make changes to your site. Appearance of whole sites can be changed just by uploading a new theme to your directory. With thousands of themes available you should not have a problem to find themes that suit you. But how do you choose the perfect theme for your Wordpress-based blogs?

The theme should match the overall purpose of your blog. For example a personal blog theme will not appeal to a corporate blog. A personal blog will be more of a funky and hip appearance while a theme for a corporate blog will be more sober and more formal. This is not always true however as companies targeting youth and teens will also tend to be more informal in their approach. In essence it will all amount to the purpose and objective of your website. It is important that you keep this in mind when choosing a theme. People tend to look at appearance and they will easily forge an opinion of your website just by the look of your site.

Second thing that you should look for in a theme is the functionality. It is one thing to choose a theme that looks good on the eyes and another to choose one that really works. I’ll explain. Sometimes you may need to make some modifications to a theme in order to provide services to your reader. For instance you may need to put a live chat box on your site. If the original designer have not make provision for this you may break the aesthetics of the theme just by installing a chat box. Similarly you may be interested to place some ads on your website. It is important that you take this into account when looking for a theme.

It is also important that the theme is compatible with all major browsers. Internet Explorer and Firefox are two of the most popular browsers on the Windows platform and Safari is the most popular one on Macs. In order to avoid any trouble make sure that your theme boast some valid CSS and HTML to ensure that they will work great in all browsers. Try to check with some different browsers or ask some friends for help to determine the appearance the cross-compatibility of the themes.

Choosing an appropriate theme may sometimes appear to be a time-consuming task. But once you got a theme that is suited to your blog you will quickly recoup all these efforts. As the saying goes, there is no pain without gain. Many aspiring bloggers simply neglect this aspect of blogging and just want to start writing right away. In truth for a blog to be successful you also need some marketing tips and tool that will pave the way for success.

Unlimited Web Hosting, Finally!

Website hosting isn’t like it used to be. I was very very broke when I got into this business over 10 years ago. I paid monthly for my web hosting and dreaded the beginning of the month when I had to send in the next payment. I really was unsure about my direction in life. I often had to rethink my whole career because I figured if I couldn’t scrape together enough money to pay my hosting fees each month, was I just fooling myself?

It’s not hosting cost a ridiculous amount of money. They cost me just shy of $15 per month. Laugh if you like, I still had troubles managing my money properly to get it paid. Since I was late, my site would be down until I was able to finally pay the bill.

On top of that, when I tried to expand my business and create new websites I usually had to tuck them in a folder off the root if my main site and redirect the domain name to that folder. Most of the hosting companies that I dealt with frowned upon such activity and my accounts were often shut down. I was running out of hosting companies, so I thought, but mind you I was only dealing with local companies. It never even occurred to me to venture outside the country (or even city) to lay down new virtual land. Sounds strange now that I type this.

What’s worse, doing anything to your site required submitting a ticket. As a result it took days to accomplish simple tasks such as adding support for dynamic scripting languages such as ASP, or to change permissions on folders or files.

Thankfully, these days, things are much more advanced. People are buying hosting packages from companies on the other side of the world. People are paying years in advance. People are even hosting multiple (virtually unlimited) web sites under one account, and get this, they are allowed!

I deal with multiple companies now for my hosting needs. One such company, offering unlimited hosting, for less than I was paying for one-site hosting back in the day, is GoDaddy. I also have the ability to administrate a lot of common tasks and most are done automatically for me. Granted, some of the admin stuff was a bit tricky to grasp at first, but it is become very simple with practice. I laid out some simple steps for one of the common tasks which is adding additional web site to your GoDaddy hosting package. Read this article to see exactly how, the process is broken down into simple chunks: Host Multiple Sites On Godaddy

Small Business Blogging Tips

If you own a small business, chances are that you are probably quite familiar with the “feast or famine” cycle of small business, where there’s either too much work going on for you to handle it all, or not enough business coming in through the door.

If your business seems to be affected by the “feast or famine” cycle, then I want to show you an easy, smart, simple, quick and inexpensive way to start alleviating this condition.

It’s called blogging about your business.

Basically, you start a business blog, then write about your business and publish the information online through your blog.

Let me explain why this is a very smart thing to do, and how it can help you ride the ups and downs of small business life.

First of all, starting a business blog is simpler, quicker, cheaper and easier to do than setting up a small business web site. In a moment, I’ll share with you some valuable small business blog marketing tips you will want to know about when starting a business blog.

Secondly, by adding regular content to your blog that educates people about the benefits of your business, products and services, you will not only create more trust and authority with potential customers online when they visit your business blog, but you will also increase visibility and exposure for your business in your particular market sector.

So … how will this help you successfully manage the “feast or famine” cycles that most small business owners experience?

Well, in times of “feast”, you can simply refer people to relevant articles you have made on your blog that provide them with the information they are looking for. Every business owner is familiar with the sometimes frustrating experience of having their valuable time taken up with the same explanations of how, why, what, when and where certain aspects of their business are done. Rather than spend 30-45 minutes or more reiterating the same thing over and over again to luke-warm prospects, why not write an article about it and publish it on your blog? Then, the next time someone asks you to explain this very same thing, rather than waste an hour of your or your staff’s time, just ask them for their email address and send them a link to the page on your blog where you have posted this information. Your prospect can then research the subject in their own time and call you back when they are ready to move to the next step.

Now … if, in your blog you have set up a way for people to opt-in to a database (e.g. a newsletter subscription form, or downloadable report), then you have already taken an important step towards helping your business survive in times of famine. When work slows down, you can contact your list subscribers with a special offer, or send them an email about products or services they may want to consider at that point in time.

By incorporating small business blog marketing into your regular business activities, you will be providing genuine service to those you cannot service immediately, as well as creating a prospecting pipeline for leaner times.

Five Essential Small Business Blog Marketing Tips

Small Business Blog Marketing Tip #1 - Host Your Business Blog On Your Own Domain

Although many small businesses set up their business blog on blogging platforms that offer free hosting, this can be a costly mistake in the long run. It also indicates that the business owner is not aware of what a valuable business asset a business blog can be. By setting up a blog on your own domain, you are ensuring that all traffic, content and links pointing back to your content pages are growing the value of your web property and not someone else’s, and also that they won’t suddenly disappear if, for, example, you decide to take your business to the next level and change blogging platforms or change hosting providers.

Small Business Blog Marketing Tip #2 - Set Up Your Business Blog Using A WordPress Blog

WordPress provides an ideal business blogging platform (hosted on your own domain, of course). Wordpress is free, and supports an active community of plugin developers and professional designers who have created thousands of plugins that can add incredible functionality and powerful flexibility to your blog, as well as thousands of professional themes you can use to completely change the look and feel of your business blog. Best of all, most WordPress plugins and themes can be downloaded free of charge, and customized for your own business use in many instances.

Small Business Blog Marketing Tip #3 - Automate Your Business Blog Marketing SEO And Search Engine Indexing Functions

Although a WordPress blog is fairly easy to install and set up, the default installation is quite basic and lacks most of the functionality you need to ensure that your content is automatically optimized for ranking better than your competition in the search engines, as well as getting quickly indexed and added to the search results of all the major search engines and blog directories. This is by no means a “negative”, as WordPress allows you to quickly add all of this functionality by simply installing and activating certain plugins. All you need to do is spend a little time learning which plugins work best together to help automate your blog.

Small Business Blog Marketing Tip #4 - Add New Content Regularly To Your Business Blog

Every small business owner I have ever met carries an amazing amount of information in their head about their business, their industry, expert tips on buying, installing and using their products and services, benefits and features, comparison data about competitor products and services, etc … In short, there is no shortage of material to provide potential new customers with. Many small business owners, however, don’t fully understand how much leverage they can create for their business by turning this information into short informative articles, announcements, interesting posts, news releases, answers to frequently asked questions, etc … that can attract the attention of people searching online for what you can help deliver, educate and engage prospective customers, and funnel visitors into a process that delivers not only great value and service every step of the way, but that can ultimately lead to new customers and new sales of your products and services.

Having a simple plan to add 1-2 articles per week to your business blog can lead to amazing results. As I have just stated, there is no shortage of information when it comes to thinking of ideas to write about your business. If you commit to investing as little as 20 - 30 minutes a day to small business blog marketing activities, you can transform your business quite rapidly.

Divide your business blogging time as follows:

- Spend 40% of your time researching topics to write about. Start an ideas file and add to it every day - even just the title of a blog post will do.
- Spend 40% of your time writing your article. Open up a simple notepad text file and just write on a topic the same way as you would if you were explaining something to a prospect one-on-one. Keep the style conversational, use your own voice and don’t worry about editing anything until you finish writing at least 500 - 700 words (4-5 short paragraphs)
- Spend 20% of your time editing and proofing what you have written, then publish it. You can always easily edit your post later if you need to add, modify or delete sections of your post.

Using the above time schedule, if you invest just 20 minutes a day, five days a week into maintaining a business blog, you will spend a total of 40 minutes researching (e.g. reading other blogs for topics to write about), 40 minutes writing your post(s), and 20 minutes editing and proofing your article. This is enough time to add one or three new posts every week or so, and start growing your business online. Keep this commitment for one whole month to get the blogging habit and do this for three months before evaluating your performance and your results. I guarantee you will be more than pleasantly surprised!

Small Business Blog Marketing Tip #5 - Use Your Business Blog Performance Data To Improve Your Business Results

As a small business blog marketer, your goal is to deliver content that will attract new visitors to your site, engage and build trust with your readers, and then direct them to areas of your site where they can either get more information about the benefits of using your products and services, contact you for the next step, or place an order once they have made a decision to buy.

Setting up a simple information system that tracks where visitors to your blog are coming from, what keywords and phrases they are typing into search engines and other sites to find you, how long they stay on your blog when they visit and which pages they visit the most when they are browsing through your blog can all provide valuable information that you can then use to improve your business, deliver better customer service … even uncover a demand for new products and services.

I hope you have found this information useful and I wish you great business blogging success. SEO Guide for the Uninitiated

No online marketing strategy would be complete without incorporating SEO as a key element. Due to the perpetuation of misinformation and SEO firms only looking to make a quick dollar, many are reluctant to invest marketing resources in SEO efforts. As the internet continues to grow in size and scope, companies who don’t consider working with an ethical SEO firm to optimize their search engine presence are hurting themselves.

Much of the negative sentiment surrounding SEO is due to the false assumption that the end goal of optimization efforts is high search engine rankings of certain keyword phrases. High rankings are only a means to an end, however, not an end in and of themselves. All effective SEO campaigns should increase the number of visitors to a website and more importantly increase sales or conversions. To accomplish this effectively, you must figure out the keywords that potential customers search for when researching or buying the products and services you sell.

That is why keyword research is essential to laying the groundwork for an effective SEO campaign. Before developing your on-page and off-page optimization strategies, you should gain a full understanding of the keyword environment you’re targeting. This includes researching keyword search volumes, search trends, keyword commercial value, and the intent of searchers using these keywords. This knowledge will enable you to craft a strategy focused on improving your rankings for keywords that will deliver increased traffic and conversions to your website.

Once you’ve finished researching your target keywords, any comprehensive SEO strategy must incorporate 3 elements: a) Onsite code, tags, and structure optimization; b) Relevant, unique content creation; c) quality link development. You can find all kinds of expert advice, secret tips, and lengthy books out there on SEO, but when all is said and done, pretty much every SEO practice fits into 1 of these 3 categories. If your SEO strategy doesn’t involve all 3 of these elements in a cohesive fashion, your results will fall short of expectations.

Because many companies are skeptical of SEO, they often choose to focus on PPC for their internet marketing efforts. PPC can definitely be an effective tool, but for the most part, SEO will generate more value over the long term. This is because working with a quality SEO firm allows you to build an asset that will continue to yield visitors and conversions after your SEO campaign is finished. SEO vs PPC can be compared to buying a house vs. renting an apartment. While buying a house may necessitate a more significant financial and time investment up front, it becomes an asset that with proper upkeep will increase in value. You should remember that like all infrastructure, online properties need consistent upkeep to maintain and enhance their value.

As social media (Web 2.0) websites have become increasingly widespread and popular, it’s more important than ever that online marketing strategies involve social media marketing in addition to SEO. With the plethora of social media utilities, the thought of generating blog posts, tweeting, setting up a Facebook page, etc. can seem a bit daunting at first. Social media campaigns can definitely become very complex, but you can start with something as simple as a blog on which you post answers to frequently asked customer questions. Social media’s value stems from its power to strengthen customer relationships, listen to what others are saying about you, and develop your brand. As with SEO, social media strategies should be developed so that all aspects work cohesively together.

How To Benefit From The Power Of Twitter And Social Media

It can be said that people sometimes underestimate the power of Twitter and social media as a whole. However, think back ten years and compare the networks that were around then to the networks that exist today. These need to be taken advantage of to ensure that you get ahead in the world of advertising.

Most of us are familiar with the term social media and perhaps are aware of the fact that it refers to the many ways in which people interact with one another online. One of the most prominent forms of social media at the moment is Twitter where users are given only 140 characters to say their piece.

Twitter is the current flavor of the internet with loads of people going online every day to share their thoughts with the world. An incredible statistic is the fact that almost sixty million people sign on to the site every month. That is mind boggling if you think of what it would take to actually meet all these people.

Social media takes on more than just the form of Twitter. There is communication media which takes the form of blogs where people can write what they want, where they want. Collaborations such as Wikipedia where people are able to add content if they know about a subject and multimedia like Flickr are also examples.

Entertainment networks and sports networks are seeing the value that networking and media has on their own websites as they allow the public to give their opinions on certain topics about celebrities, sports heroes and the state of the game that they love!

So we are all aware that the world is becoming a smaller place and the power of Twitter and social media is part of what has caused this. Those who want to get ahead in the marketing and advertising world should realize this and harness its potential.

4 Million Dollar Making Money with Blogging Ideas

What you need to know first…earning money from blogging works best if you have your own hosting and domain names for every niche you plan on blogging about because to truly take advantage ofearning money from this platform your going to need complete control over the types of content that are added to your blog but there are a host of free blog sites that you can also use with some of the techniques that are to follow.

1. Employ Your Blog to Promote Affiliate Products: This is what a lot of the guru’s do to earn tons of cash by using a simple blog to do reviews on numerous products that they market. You will want to have a different blog for each product that you are promoting. This practice is called “Pre Selling” or a “Pre Sell” page. A potential customer will always be more inclined to purchase when reading a review of something they are considering purchasing rather than just being thrown onto the main sales page. Make sure to include your affiliate link in your blog and put in a call to action at the end of your review. This is a nice word of mouth soft pre sell and this practice works well.

2. Place Affiliate Banners on Your Blog: Most products that you chose to market have an affiliates page where you can grab the code for different banners and place them on you blog. This is a great practice to use as it makes your blog look more significant and larger than life giving the look that you have individuals buying advertising space on your blog. Make sure the banners you put on there are of the same or are in a relative niche that the blog is about so that you don’t confuse your visitor as to what they are looking for. To do this you need to have your own hosting for your and full control over your blog page as you cant place these ads on the free blog hosting sites.

3. Place AdSense Ads On Your Blog: Google AdSense provides you with a number of ad type options - image or text based to place on your blog that when clicked on by visitors can generate income for you. Implementing AdSense is very easy. You specify your preferences and just copy and paste into your page source code where you would like the ad to appear. You can use the same code on any of your websites. Once implemented DON’T click on these AdSense ads yourself as this constitutes click fraud and google will penalize you for that. You can’t game the system they WILL catch you so do this the right way and it will payoff.

4. Start 2 to 5 Blogs a Day: Find 2 to 5 different products daily that you want to market and stick to steps 1 and 2 to monetize the platform. If you do this you will have 60 to 150 plus blogs working for you by the end of the month and it costs you nothing but your time or the cost of a domain name and hosting for a year.

Remember blogging for money is a business and content alone will not bring in cash for you. You must do added research ( just google building blog traffic or something similar) to become skilled at how to generate traffic to your blog as traffic, traffic, traffic means mo’ money in online marketing. A blog with no traffic, if your looking to earn money, is just that…a Blahg.

What Is PPC? Your Question Answered

It’s very important for advertisers to reach audience and pull them in. As such, there are many ways to get customers, such as pay per click or PPC advertising. If you’re wondering “What is PPC?” you can start to understand it in becoming familiar with the world of advertising itself. This field has come a long way from where it was and the problems it suffered when it first came about. Check how to make quick money for more information on affiliate marketing.

As already mentioned, if you were a seller, advertising could be a tricky business. You might pay to have an ad placed somewhere only to find that it brings you no business. Since only a small percentage of viewers actually buy anything, you really need to get viewers in the first place. You certain don’t want to have to keep throwing money away.

The amount you would have to pay depended on several things, but in the end, if it wasn’t worth it, it just wasn’t worth it. People began wanting a different option more and more, and they finally found it in pay per click advertising. Here, you could get your advertising in the way you wanted, and the situation was changed for the better.

Things seem to have begun with the service known as Google AdSense. This, logically, came from the company Google itself, which was already popular in terms of its search engine. It was relatively easy for them to pull in a new audience, this one wanting to sell products with keywords and looking for someone who could help them be able to do that.

The main point here was that you only had to pay for the amount of people who actually clicked through an ad, as opposed to those that just looked at it. In addition to not having to pay up front, there was also the fact that selling techniques were improved since submitted ads were paired with the kinds of websites they’d be associated with.

Clearly, there was a lot for advertisers to love, but the same held true for people who actually owned the websites. Even if they weren’t getting paid no matter what, they could manipulate things to their advantage in terms of advertisement placement and its ability to catch viewers’ eyes - they still made considerable amounts of money in the process.

Many actually made is just one of many websites that might not survive without it. There’s no reason for it to go away though - everybody gets what they want, whether it be attention for their product or a profit.

PPC advertising offered people many new possibilities and gave them the terms they were looking for in terms of their advertising potential. Google AdSense is still running, and other services like it have come about since, so there are a lot of options. If you’re on either side of the advertising world, you might want to consider using this method.
